Soho House Holloway
The Soho House Holloway collection is a reflection of the thriving diverse Los Angeles art scene – and the artists shaping its future
Curated by Kate Bryan, Global Director of Art for Soho House, in 2021 and 2022, the Soho House Holloway art collection brings together a focussed array of artists all 40 or under, and born, based or trained in LA. Their experience ranges from emerging voices (Dan Simantov and Dominique Labaki) to bastions of the LA art scene (Sayre Gomez and Genevieve Gaignard) and indeed the global art world (Aria Dean and Diedrick Brackens).
This site features a number of custom-made pieces. Brackens, a recent participant in the Made in LA biennial (2018) at LA’s Hammer Museum, created a new tapestry work for the main club space. Fresh from his successful exhibition at François Ghebaly, Gomez produced a new painting for Soho House Holloway – a further exploration of his Halloween City series. The Finley brothers, Kohshin and Delfin, Angeleno ‘Renaissance men’, have each produced a unique new work for this collection, where they will be exhibited side by side. And finally, painter Jessalyn Brooks was commissioned for the Soho House Holloway rooftop mural, creating a work of abstracted intertwining bodies, and echoing the colors of the surrounding decor and Californian landscape.
Throughout the club, restaurant, Library and courtyard, the Soho House Holloway collection taps into the diversity of the Los Angeles art scene, with artists of all backgrounds producing works ranging from sculpture (Lisa Solberg and Sula Bermúdez-Silverman), photography (Anna Carey) and works on paper (Julian Pace and Christina Quarles) to painting (Melinda Braathen) and textile-based pieces (Diedrick Brackens). The 34 boutique bedrooms each feature a unique artwork by Dan Simantov, Dominique Labaki or Elizabeth Ibarra.
